![]() Note: Surcote is fuller than other officers and members. The color of the drape cloak and the type of cross are a mystery. However, for our purposes, this is the opportune place to recognize the Commander as the Prior of the Knights of Malta by making the drape black the the cross a Maltese cross of white or silver. |

![]() Note: Form-fitting chain-mail looks of the highest quality, little or no padding. Plain handle on cleaver. Trim on coif - does not appear to be made of chain-mail unless of a very fine weave. Below is pictured some linen material that my work for the bottom part of the Generalissimo's surcoat. Left: Linen 5 yards x 54" (purchased) Right: 100% Cotton limited quantities x 54" (purchased 5 yards) |

| While there is
some debate over Templar knights wearing red surcoats with white crosses,
there are many advantages to using them for our purposes: easier to care
for, less likely to have t-shirts with logo's show through (or other
clothes), and the contrast between the dais officers and the rest of the
Commandery will be quite striking - not to mention red doesn't show the
blood stains of battle! The surcoat pictured above was a "one left"
close-out from Chivalric. It isn't exactly right but with a few
modifications should serve as a good starting template for our purposes.
